The following are frequently asked questions and their answers regarding using RUDA data.

I am a researcher who has recently completed a graduate course. Will I be able to access RUDA data?

You may continue to access RUDA data, but you will be required to supply a recommendation from a researcher affiliated with an educational institution. See Usage Requirements for details.

I am a researcher who has left my position at a university last year. Can I still access the data archive?

You may access RUDA data, but you must submit a recommendation from a researcher affiliated with an educational institution. Refer to this page for details.

Are there any fees associated with using RUDA data?

Both user registration and data usage are free of charge.

How do I apply to use data?

Please send a "Usage Application" form to CSI via either post or email. Refer to this page for details.

I can’t download data even though I’ve registered as a user.

To use the data of interest, you must send a "Usage Application" form to CIS, and receive an approval to access the data in addition to registering as a user. Refer to this page for details.

How many datasets can I use?

You may use any number of datasets. No limit is imposed on the amount of data you may use.

What is "permitted period " for accessing the data?

The data may be used for a predetermined period of time. Please refer to this page for more details on the "permitted period" for accessing the data.

What should I do when I have finished using the data?

Once you have finished using the data, or the permitted period has expired, (1) erase the downloaded data, and (2) send a "Usage Report" form to CSI. If you have published your research findings (in articles, reports, etc.), please also send two copies of each publication to CSI. If you continue to use the data, you must apply for an extnention. Please circle the "Extension desired" field in the "Usage Report" form and send that form to CSI. Refer to this page for details.

I am considering using the data as lecture material. Do all of the students attending the lecture need to be registered as users and submit the "Usage Application " form?

Only the lecture(s) or instructor(s) in charge of the lecture should register as a user and submit the “Usage Application” form for using the data. As for the attendants (students) of the lecture, there is no need to register as a user and submit any forms.

My data usage application was approved in February. Will the permitted period permit period terminate by the end of March?

You can use the survey data until March 31st of the following year. In case of approval received on or after January 1, you may use the data until March 31 of the following year (not March 31 of the same year). Refer to this page for details.
